DMSA scintigraphy is indicated in children for evaluation and/or detection of acute pyelonephritis, renal scars, small kidneys, duplicated collecting systems, renal masses and systemic
What is a DMSA scan? DMSA, or dimercaptosuccinic acid, is a radioactive compound (radiopharmaceutical) that when injected into a vein allows images or pictures to be taken of the kidneys. DMSA enters the kidneys and is concentrated in functioning/normal kidney tissue, giving an indication as to how the kidneys are working.
We noted differential uptake less than 40% with and without cortical defects in 10 and 7 refluxing units, respectively, and cortical defects only in 7. 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scintigraphy is currently the method of choice for assessing renal scarring in children, but it is not established whether conducting the scan as a single photon emission tomography combined with low-dose CT (SPECT/ldCT) scan provides additional diagnostic benefits when compared to conventional planar scintigraphy. 2019-11-15 · Two experienced physicians blinded to patient diagnosis retrospectively analysed all paediatric 99mTc-DMSA scintigraphies that were conducted in our department between 2011 and 2016 and which included both a planar scan and SPECT/ldCT. All scintigraphies were performed on either a Phillips Precedence 16 slice CT or a Siemens Symbia 16 slice CT. DMSA scintigraphy and CT have long been known to be highly sensitive and specific (2,3,7,15).

It is noteworthy that reflux was seen in less than half of renal units with abnormal DMSA scintigraphy. Renal Scintigraphy Carlos Cunha Pereira Neto Dominique Delbeke Renal scintigraphy has been used in clinical nephrourology since the early 1960s. It provides functional and anatomic information, both closely related. Structural information, however, is limited.
Urinary tract ultrasonography and technetium-99m-labeled dimercaptosuccinic acid ( (99m)Tc-DMSA) scintigraphy were performed within 72 hours after diagnosis and voiding cystourethrography within 1 to 2 months. DMSA scintigraphy, to determine the development of PRD, was repeated 6 months after UTI.

We here present the DMSA and EC scintigraphy images DMSA scintigraphy was performed in a 17-year-old female patient who had no previous known disease on the basis of the normal kidney on the radiological Aug 3, 2016 DMSA kidney scans are predominately done on young children but can Diuretic Renal Scintigraphy in 2020: Where We Are (February 2020).
DMSA scintigraphy is indicated in children for evaluation and/or detection of acute pyelonephritis, renal scars, small kidneys, duplicated collecting systems, renal masses and systemic hypertension . 99m Tc DMSA is a renal cortical scanning agent that localizes in the proximal tubules.
Time Tc-DMSA renal scintigraphy is widely accepted as the most sensitive method for detecting parenchymal lesions and diagnosing acute pyelonephritis. follow-up with 99mTC-dimercaptosuccinic acid scintigraphy (DMSA). All patients were studied at least 3 months after their most recent urinary tract infection and micturating cystourethrography (MCU) was performed prior to the scintigraphic studies. CONCLUSION: Our results show that 99m Tc (V) DMSA scintigraphy is a useful noninvasive diagnostic test for the detection and localization of intestinal inflammation.
